Aruba Shirt

My grandmother just got back from a cruise through Mexico and Panama, and brought everyone shirts back as their Christmas gifts. I have no idea what’s happening to her eyesight where she thinks burnt orange and lavender look good together, or why she thinks I would love it, but this is the shirt I got. It’s not nearly as bad as my dad’s or sister’s, but still not something I’m wearing out of the house.

Porcelain Doll

This is a porcelain doll that was given to my three year old for Christmas. It’s a nice gesture, but 1) my daughter tends to be destructive, 2) She hates dolls, 3) We definitely don’t have room for it, and 4) I’m afraid it’s going to suck out my soul in the middle of the night.

I don’t think we’ll be displaying this one in her room anytime soon.

50 management ideas

I’ve got a bunch of books in my Amazon Wish list that I’d like to have or that I’ve already read and want to add to my library. They’re mostly classic and/or very well known business books, such as the following:

Instead I got a book called, “50 Management Ideas You Really Need to Know” with a word of encouragement that if I just look at the glossary of this book it’s “got all of the stuff the other books that you wanted talked about it all wrapped up in one!”

Now, when I read, it’s usually for a definite purpose, not just to fill time. I am looking to get real value out of the time I spend in these books. I’m not looking for a cliff notes version of a concept this author may or may not (most likely not) know about.

Thumbing through the book, this guy just grabs catch phrases like “Web 2.0″ or “the long tail” or “six sigma” or even “Blue Ocean Strategy” and paraphrases in two pages what he thinks these ideas are about!! Never heard of this author. Can’t get the book on Amazon. It doesn’t have an ISBN number. And it’s not even published in the US.

Maybe I’ll just put it by the toilet. That’s about the quality of it’s writing. So….. uh, thanks.

Welcome

Uh… thanks? If you’re like me, you’ve probably said or at least thought this when you received a “special” gift from someone. I know, I know. It’s the thought that counts. However, sometimes a certain gift may be pointless or even inappropriate.

You probably just smiled, said thank you, and went on your merry way. Later, when no one was looking, you probably tossed that gift in the trash or put it in the closet to re-gift on another unsuspecting soul.

That’s fine. Do what you want with these blemishes on society. We’re not here to judge. But before you send that gift to the landfill, why not snap a quick photo and tell us about it. You know you want to tell someone but can’t because the person that gave it to you might find out. Now you can. Don’t worry. We won’t publish any of your personal information. Your secret is safe with us.
